Binny Hiffo crowned Miss East Kameng

ITANAGAR, Jul 24: Binny Hiffo was crowned Miss East Kameng in beauty contest organized by East Kameng Youth Forum on July 22 last at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Seppa auditorium.
Puja Singhi and Fepung Natung were adjudged as the first and second runners up respectively.
Hiffo, a BA 2nd year student of DNG College Itanagar beat 11 contestants to wear the crown having outsmarted in various categories of assessment. When asked about her reaction on being crowned Miss East Kameng, the elated Hiffo said that she was overwhelmed after hearing her name called out as the winner of the contest which she never expected. One should not dishearten by failures as wining and losing are part and parcel of any competition. What matters most to us is participation, she added.
Mama Natung, a businessman, who was invited as the chief guest of the pageant contest stressed on the role of the society for the upliftment of the girl child and said one should come forward to support such kind of events/programme through which they get encouragement to face challenges in life. Raju Gyadi, president, East Kameng Chambers of Commerce and Industry emphasized on the role of the youth in bringing a positive changes in the society.
State Taekwondo team to take part in referee seminar
ITANAGAR, Jul 24: As part of the preparation for the ensuing 32nd National Junior Boys & Girls Taekwondo Championship scheduled to be held at Naharlagun, a young team from Arunachal Taekwondo Association (ATA) is leaving here tomorrow for Shillong to attend Black Belt Examination and National Referee seminar to be conducted by Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI).

ITANAGAR, Jul 24: Veteran social worker and former President of the Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang Mading Tayeng died at his residence in Pasighat yesterday.
He was 70 and is survived by his wife, 2 sons and a daughter.
Born in 1942 in Mebo village near Pasighat, Tayeng served the state government in various capacities before retiring as Joint Secretary under General Administration.
Being a man of principles with deep faith and high regard for Donyi Poloism, Tayeng always advocated and worked for the preservation and promotion of all indigenous faith and cultures of Arunachal Pradesh. He also served as the President of the Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang for 3 years from 2006 to 2009.
Many prominent leaders, including former ministers Lombo Tayeng and Doi Ado visited the house of Tayeng and paid tributes to him.
The rank and file of Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebeng, including its president Tabi Jerang, former president Ajing Ering and General Secretary Tajom Tasung deeply mourned the death of its former president and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul, according to Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang, Pasighat.
Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang Itanagar (DPYK) has mourned at untimely demise of Mading Tayeng. DPYK, Itanagar observed two minutes silence and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul. AVP East Siang dist unit also expressed shock over the demise of Mading Tayeng and termed his demise as an irreparable loss to the society and the state.

While referring to the several instances of brutal attack on media persons/journalists in the Capital Complex in recent past, the CJM in its order informed that police has submitted charge sheets against the accused in some of the cases. “It is imperative to have speedy trials of such cases with hearing on day to day basis and to instill the faith of the public in justice delivery system,” the order said.

Dear Editor,
The brutual attack on Tongam Rina is highly shocking and condemnable. The outrage over the horrifying incident is overwhelming. However, considering the law enforceing agencie’s laxity and complacency such untoward incident was imminent, if our memory serves right, the journalist reportedly received death threats in the recent past. Just three months back the office of the Arunachal Times was vandalized by a group of masked intruders. In another incident, two lady scribes were attacked by a rogue element in uniform.
Apparentaly, in all these cases, the authorities concerned failed to deliver justice. The attack on the journalist could have been averted, if they had shown diligence and sincerity in their obligation of tracing out the culprits and taking them to task in nick of time. It’s expected that the government would understand the public outcry and instead of paying lip service, leave no stone unturned to nab the culprit/s and ensure that justice is delivered.
All the media houses and media persons deserve adequate security enabling the watchdog of democracy to discharge their duties efficiently. The whole state stands in solidarity with Tongam Rina and the Press fraternity in their fight for dignity and justice.

Increase intake capacity of B.Sc students in colleges

It is a tight slaps on the face of those students whose determination to become a doctor/engineer through joint entrance examination made them work hard for a year attending coaching classes, dropping their 1st year after 12th board exam. This step is very common all over India where students aim at taking up a particular profession whether medical or engineering by spending lots of money in study every year.
On the other side, let us not ignore the bitter truth. Not every student gets selected in Joint Entrance Examination(s). Hence, those students with financially weak background go for BA or B. Sc degree in Arunachal Pradesh – the common scene which prevails, those aspiring to become a doctor joins B.Sc in Dera Natung Govt College or JNC, Pasighat. But, if you personally encounter any B. Sc graduate, they would definitely express their willingness to go for medical courses in spite of simple B Sc. But due to financial problem, they stopped dreaming of what they had dreamt before.
Now, let us see what happened to our students, when they want admission in B. Sc in D N G College, they are told ‘1 year drop out after 12th’ won’t be given first preference or direct admission. They will have to wait for certain days, if seats are available after the admission of fresh students, they will look into the matter. Not only that, their form were even not accepted.
Now, does the new so-
Arunachal itself does not provide the educational facilities like medical college or engineering college other than NIT and NERIST and with such weak financial background where all those frustrated students will suppose to go if the Govt colleges refuse to take them.
In this respect, the Govt is requested to increase the intake capacity of B Sc students in Dera Natung Govt College, Itanagar so that all the students irrespective of fresh or one year drop out after class XII could get admission in B Sc course.

I would like to share my personal views on the latest happening in the state, particularly regarding shooting out case against Tongam Rina, who happened to be Associate Editor of Arunachal Times. It is a cowardice act on the culprit who shot at female member who does not have physical strength to fight back.
It is condemnable from all quarters, and I personally condemn this incident. Let's not politicize this issue and let's not aggravate this problem into a communal based issue. Miss Tongam Rina belongs to Arunachal Pradesh and we are all Arunachalis. As regard to the said incident, let’s not blame the government only. Let’s cooperate the police to nab the culprit. Yes, it is government's fault not punishing the criminals in strictest way. Police are also human being, let's cooperate the law enforcing department collectively in nabbing the culprits to win the reward from the Creator instead of cash reward offered by the police.
